TO SEE AND DO IN ALMUÑECAR




Walking through the old town and enjoy the patios full of flowers and its white lanes.


The old town is situated on a hill adjacent to the sea with all the streets are steep and promote exercise and offer interesting photographic perspectives.


The Phoenician-Punic necropolis is an impressive archaeological site with over 2,500 years old. In the Cave of the Seven Palaces is possible to see the remains of the Roman period.


Go to the "Holy Rock" more representative geographical point of Almuñécar to enjoy the views over the sea and the entire village.


Bask in any of the great beaches in the area. Sailing, windsurfing and kayaking are some possibilities if you have any sporting activity during the trip, although these waters are especially good for diving thanks to the beauty of the surrounding seabed.


Fish is a fundamental element of local cuisine, so during a trip to Almuñécar should never miss tasting a grilled sardines, prawns of good or a zarzuela. Mohína casserole, a dessert of Arab origin very similar to marzipan, is recommended for travelers with a sweet tooth. Among the restaurants in Almuñécar, highlights "The Last Wave", ideal for fine dining and special with sea views.


Visit the municipal market to admire the variety of local products, both in the seafood section as in fruits and vegetables. If you have a kitchen is the chance to buy and cook some of the same products.

Visit the La Herradura beach, although in part is included in the town of Almuñécar, is separated from it by the mountain of La Punta de la Mona. It is a beautiful horseshoe shaped beach with more than two kilometers long and surrounded by mountains full of pine that has begun to be exploited for tourism in recent years.


Nerja with its famous prehistoric caves and charming and picturesque old town is another nearby destination worth visiting, just as Motril, Granada and the essential Adra.


Frigiliana is another village near Almuñécar worth seeing. This is a fascinating little town in the mountains of Nerja which was recently named the cleanest people of Europe. It has some beautiful cobbled streets, full of white houses, typical products shops and restaurants with stunning views out to sea.


A route to drive from Salobreña Almuñécar is also highly recommended, as it should be the most photogenic people on the Costa del Sol (recommended the view from the old road from Almuñécar). Salobreña offers spectacular views of its privileged location in a rock on the esplanade of the river mouth Guadalfeo. If visiting, it is advisable to eat at the restaurant El Pesetas, in the upper town. Its stunning terrace ensures breathtaking views of the entire valley.
